Long-Term Healthcare – An Emerging Focus

A new emerging emphasis within our practice involves claims that focus on denied or delayed insurance claims involving long-term/home health care. Long-term health care is care for one who requires assistance with activities of daily living including but not limited to bathing, feeding, walking, dressing, and meal preparation. It may also include supervision for those suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's. Medicare often does not cover long-term health care, and unless an elderly person has no assets or source of income, he or she will not qualify for Medicaid, which may cover long-term health care for the destitute on a very limited basis. Consequently, the insurance industry has targeted a lucrative market in the elderly and aging Baby Boomers, many of whom will require long-term health care in later years when they became incapable of providing for their own needs.
